Celebratory Ride

I didn’t vote.

Well, it wasn’t exactly a matter of choice for me as a non-U.S. citizen.  Therefore, officially speaking, I, a permanent resident alien, remain an outsider.  (Incidentally, I have published articles exploring aliens and their rights curtailed. )

Nevertheless, three people in my family are U.S. citizens (two dual citizens).   And yes, I care deeply about this country, especially for the sake of my children.

As soon as the three of us left our violin teacher’s house after the weekly lessons, we turned on the car radio.  A cheer erupted.  It was a celebratory ride home.

This historic election gave Daniel and me the opportunity to explore politics, racism, gun rights, and numerous other issues.

Still a little overwhelmed, I am trying to think what this victory will mean to my children — half-white and half-“colored”  like the President-elect.

A new journey is about to begin.
